BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
The Building and Grounds Committee is the focal point for all activities affecting the permanent appearance of the church and parish facilities and properties. Some of the activities include budget programming, project management, facility planning, consulting services, providing estimates for construction and renovation projects, and making recommendations to Parish Council and the Pastor.
A Long-range Planning Committee was formed to address the need for more and improved space. In the spring of 2001, the committee sent a survey to parishioners to determine what was most important to parishioners. Based upon the survey, it was determined that improvements to the parish would proceed through several phases.
After the committee completed its work, a separate Building Committee was formed to implement Phase 1 (building a new parish center and improving the grounds). An architect was chosen to draw up plans for the new parish life center. The new Parish Life Center was completed and dedicated in early May. (Bishop's blessing)
The two-story building has 6500 square feet on each floor, for a total of 13,000 square feet. The upper level houses the parish hall with seating for 280-300 people at tables. It has a kitchen and pantry, storage for the hall, restrooms and circulation space. The entrance for the lower level faces west and allows for a drop-off point for religious education classes, separate from the church parking lot, to promote safety for the children and to alleviate Sunday traffic congestion. It contains classrooms, restrooms and circulation space.
Phases II and III (updating the air conditioning/heating mechanicals and church renovation) as well as the approach to funding are now under consideration.
