What is The Rock and The Edge?
The ROCK is a combined high school youth group of Our Lady of Victory and St. Christopher Parishes and meets weekly from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday evenings during the school year. Our High School Youth Ministry is titled The ROCK because Jesus is the rock upon which we seek to build our lives. We seek to build a faith community where the young church can bring faith into conversation with life.
This ministry is guided by Renewing the Vision, the USCCB statement on youth ministry. The goals of youth ministry are:
- To empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today
- To draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community
- To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person
Our 7/8 grade youth group is called The EDGE and meets once or twice monthly during the school year, on nights when there is no Religious Education. The EDGE seeks to complement the Religious Education Program and to provide students with additional opportunities to build community and explore how their faith impacts their lives. The EDGE meets from 6:30- 8 p.m. on selected Sunday evenings.
“This is what is needed: a Church for young people, which will know how to speak to their heart and enkindle, comfort, and inspire enthusiasm in it with the joy of the Gospel and the strength of the Eucharist; a Church which will know how to invite and to welcome the person who seeks a purpose for which to commit his whole existence; a Church which is not afraid to require much, after having given much; which does nor fear asking from young people the effort of a noble and authentic adventure, such as that of following the Gospel.”
-Pope John Paul II, World Day of Prayer for Vocations, 1995
